With their home located in the Long Island, New York, burg of Rockville Centre, Kathy and Frank LaMacchia serve as the formal officiators of all family functions. But these hosts with the most had a kitchen with the least, routinely cramming up to 26 guests into the confined alcove. Beyond their spatial limitations, the homeowners love to cook, as do their three girls, but their outmoded appliances weren’t passing muster.

Long overdue for a culinary overhaul, they contacted Bruce Bauerle, CKD, of Five Star Kitchens to transform the diminutive space from drab to dreamy.
The mandate involved gutting the existing kitchen to make way for the required components, the most integral of which was a rare piece of granite hand-picked by the client. She discovered the green-hued slab before the remodel commenced and made all design and decor decisions based on the exceptional stone.
Establishing a distinct sense of place, the granite anchors the entire assemblage, picking up the green in the backsplash and articulating that theme throughout the milieu. The custom-made range hood serves as a stunning focal point, while a simple chandelier adds understated elegance.
